What Makes A Good Violin Lesson For Children?

Many parents want their children to learn the violin for the sole reason of learning an instrument. They want their child to be good at something, and being good in music is one of the things that would make a child “perfect.” To their mind, having a “perfect” child is equivalent to being successful parents. Having this kind of attitude, although fine, is not enough reason to enroll a child to music school. You should include other factors like, does the child enjoy the violin lessons he’s taking? How will the lessons benefit him in the future?

After answering these questions and thinking over the child’s welfare, it’s time to enroll your child to a violin music school. Although children will at first be hesitant about the suzuki violin lessons, he would warm up to the idea. There are many things that should be present in a good violin lesson for children.

First, the lessons have to be interactive and enjoyable. Children are easily bored with everything, and you need to make certain that the lessons won’t be something they’ll forget. Interaction will give social maturity to your child and develop his communication skills. It can happen in a classroom or one-on-one setting, as long as he gets to open up to new people. When you combine these two, the student will be eager to participate in every lesson.

A violin lesson should of course include a wonderful teacher. What use is having the talent when you can’t release it by being taught by a good teacher? The teacher should be friendly to the pupils. But at the same time, he should know how to disciple them. The two attitudes may be in conflict, but with the right handling, will be very effective. Great instructors combine these two to keep children interested, and also disciplined by obeying authorities. Children need to learn to respect and obey their parents and mentors while they are still young and innocent.

Having a violin lesson is better when it’s done in a bright and open room. A good location for the violin music school would be near the window or at least the room should have bright lights. This is more conductive to learning, since children will know they are being watched by the instructors.

Children naturally love rewards. To make the lessons more delightful to them, prepare some treats for them when they are able to see through to the end of the lesson. It need not be expensive treats, just something that will lift up their spirits like hugs and a kind word. Give these to them after a stressful day, and they’re sure to appreciate it. And make a point of giving them encouragement at every turn to keep them motivated to learn more.

As you can see, the makings of a good violin lesson don’t start and end in the classroom. Parents should be there, supportive and encouraging, so that the children will appreciate the lessons more. Some lessons are, admittedly, boring, but it could easily be brought to life by the people surrounding the child, like the parents, teacher and his classmates.
